Shaunt (right) is a co-owner of Antikka, a cafe and record store in West Queen West, and the Oud and the Fuzz, a bar in Kensington, with his brother Raz (left).
He was highly influenced by John Berberian, an Armenian-American musician, whose music was formative to Shaunt’s tastes and upbringing, and who inspired the name of the Oud and the Fuzz.
Much like Berberian, Shaunt is a 2nd generation Armenian in Canada. His father was born in Lebanon, and his mother in Iran. Both Armenian, they met in Toronto.
As a proud Armenian, all of what Shaunt does in some way touches the community. He has found joy in sharing his heritage through his business, and combining elements of culture which have not been combined before.
